Rather than merely conveying a demand to whoever decides, people build with their own strength the relation that demand makes possible. Success is not only the demand being accepted; people learning that they can act together is a lasting result too.
Before the question “who will govern us?” comes another: “why must we be governed?” Sometimes the first step is to widen the table a little and ask, “why aren't we taking this decision ourselves?”
Live now, as far as possible, the relations of the world you want to build. For in the end the world we make will consist not only of what we wanted but of how we treated one another while walking towards it.
Not every postponement made for the future is innocent; while life is deferred, the habits of power settle in. Another life is not waiting for us on a distant shore — we must build it from within our limited time and our flawed relations.
The one who helps is not the strong and the one who receives is not the weak; the roles change. Needing one another is no shame — and freedom is not escaping every tie but having a say in how the ties that sustain us are built.
Trust is not a service to be ordered the moment a need appears; it is the accumulation of small encounters already lived. Sometimes the most genuinely revolutionary act is as simple as knocking for the first time on the door of someone who lives on our street.
Sometimes remaining loyal to justice may require not obeying the law. For an unjust order stands not only through the power of those who built it but through ordinary people continuing to apply it every day.
Perhaps the most honest measure is this: does the breach secure a privilege for the person committing it, or does it open a space in which people they have never met can also live more freely and equally?
Not resisting was not accepting evil; it was refusing to repeat its method. Power is nourished not only by coercion applied from above but by everyday obedience given from below.
Power is not located in weapons alone; it is distributed across obedience, labour, knowledge, logistics and legitimacy. The real question is not “does nonviolence always work?” but which form of struggle, under these conditions, the greatest number of people can join.
