The invisibility of care labour lies exactly here: we need its result, yet we struggle to count as work the time, attention and exhaustion that produce it. A society's freedom is measured also by how fairly it carries the moments of dependence.
Domestic labour is counted as unpaid because the economy takes as its centre the work that earns money rather than the work that sustains life. Perhaps the first step towards a fairer order is to ask again what really produces value.
