The Greek “an-arkhe” denotes the absence of a commanding superior — not the absence of order, responsibility or shared decision. Anarchism is not another name for chaos; it is the name for never giving up the question of whose order the order is.

The most honest measure of legitimacy is not how many said yes; we must also look at what happened to whoever said no. Silence is easily read as consent.
The most important quality of a good rule is that it does not consider itself sacred. A rule that can explain its reasons, measure its consequences and remain open to change when it causes harm comes closer to being justified.
That a door is unlocked does not mean we have the means to reach it. The honest answer to “how free am I?” is hidden in who prepared the options, which of them I can actually reach, and who bears the cost of my choice.
One asks “who is interfering with me?”, the other “what am I actually able to do?” When we see both faces of freedom together the word stops being a slogan: can people both say no and live the yes they have chosen?
